An industrious gnome. A human-raised orc. A halfling mafia boss looking to sell protection.
Gappy Whirligig is an industrious gnome who has yet to reach the Age of Tinkering. He's 42. All he wants to do is build a flying contraption. Unfortunately, building such a device requires a fuel source that may make him explode, and the gnome town of Hubintegler has strict rules against inhabitants blowing themselves up prior to the age of 50. But when Gappy finds himself suddenly alone in the world, he decides to leave Hubintegler's rules and regulations behind as he seeks to make his mark in the seedy city of Planoontik...
Now he must find a place to set up shop, manage governmental bureaucracy, use the Rent-A-Friend service, and wrestle with the local halfling mafia (known as the Halfia) as they incessantly try to destroy his business. On top of that, Gappy ends up hiring an oversized orc who has a fierce appetite for pizza, and that ain't cheap. Even worse, Gappy has fallen for a beautiful—but ruthless—owner of a competing engineering firm, and she has a strong reputation for crushing her competitors...
Gappy's Gadgets is the heartwarming fourth book in the Ononokin comedic fantasy series. If you enjoy fun characters, satirical fantasy worlds, and seeing standard tropes turned upside down, then you’ll love John P. Logsdon and Christopher P. Young’s humorous fantasy adventure.

Gappy Gadgets Tales from the Land of Ononokin Book 4 eBook John P Logsdon Christopher P Young
Gappy's Gadgets is pure laugh-out-loud fun! The characters are unique and engaging. The plot is fast-paced and entertaining. And the comedy is hilarious. I couldn't put it down -- I finished the book in one sitting. (As a caution to other readers, I must warn you that if you stay up till 3:00am reading this book as I did, you may find yourself kicked out of the bedroom by a sleepy spouse who does not understand what could possibly be so funny in the middle of the night. Rest assured, this book is worth annoying your spouse over -- it's that funny).I loved the way Logson and Young created such laughable, lovable, relatable characters -- even their villains. I also loved the way they combined the absurd with the mundane to create humor. These two talented writers definitely know how to delight readers.
I hope that Logson and Young plan to write more Ononokin books (4 is not enough!) because I will be eagerly waiting to read them. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I highly recommend it.

Gappy Gadgets Tales from the Land of Ononokin Book 4 eBook John P Logsdon Christopher P Young Reviews
This is the fourth book from the Land of Ononokin that I have read. This book made me smile all the way through. Some parts made me laugh. Mr Logsdon has a very witty sense of humor that I can really relate to. If you like good writhing, interesting characters, and sharp wit sprinkled throughout, give this book a read.
Sadly book four was not up to the level of the first three. It felt rushed and not as detailed as previous stories. Another chapter or two could easily have been done with the ending scene. It felt very anticlimactic. Having two chapters of the next story add filter was just cheap.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed the book so much I then also bought a copy.
My only complaint about this book is the amount of sleep I lost reading it.
Fun read.
I got pissed at some characters for the way they were treating others.
I got happy when some characters did what they did.
Yes, you invest in the characters.
No, you don't need to have read the other books in this world to enjoy this book.
Well worth it.
Disclaimer I was given a draft copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed it enough that I bought the released version just to see how things changed. I am a geek who likes those sorts of things.
This is a fun book and a joy to read. Great character development. Several laugh-out-loud moments and plenty of giggles. My only complaint is that I had a pretty good idea of what was going to happen early on in the book, and that kept away the tension I like to feel when a character I love is in danger. Of course (*spoiler alert*) the hero will win and the villain will lose, but I want to have just a few moments of doubt. That lowered my rating from 5 stars to 4.
Overall, the fantasy world is well developed, and there were many times where I was introduced to a new character and thought "I have met this person" even though the character might be an orc or a troll.
I was a little late to the party in discovering John Logsdon's work but I'm terribly glad I did come across it. This particular book, Gappy's Gadgets, continues the stories found in the world known as Ononokin. Like Terry Pratchett's Discworld, the characters vary from book to book, though there is plenty of overlap to make it feel like a cohesive whole. I won't provide any synopsis of the book since those are already available. I'll say, though, that the characters are funny and their personalities grow on you quickly. Mr. Logsdon has created a world that has room to grow in all directions and leaves much room for further expansion of Ononokin's world. Please give these a try; you won't regret it!
This book (and series) is a great read when you are looking for something unique. To say that the characters are quirky would be an understatement! It's great though, because their oddities are heartwarming and I promise you will have several "that's so me" moments as you follow these guys on their adventure. One of the best things about these books (and especially about this one) is that you cannot have preconcieved notions about others. These characters (like those of us here on Earth), have far more to them than meets the eye.
And while the storyline or ending may seem a little predictable, the journey getting there still manages to captivate you. All in all this is another enjoyable read from Logsdon and Young. If you want a book you can pick up and immerse yourself in (adult) silliness and fun, then this folks is it!
Unlimited, has the first 4 books, #1 Quest of Undoing #2 The Full Moon Event #3 Bob the Zombie #4 Gappy's Gadgets {the other not included is #5 The Kidnapped Prince which is not available on kindle unlimited at least not yet}. There are actually 2 writers, both with multiple, strange personalities. Worth the read, so much so that I have the 4 books separate but it's easier on the kindle app to read straight through, so that's how I went thru them again.
The Fate Quest (Tales From the Land of Ononokin .5) is available only through Logson's site, please note that is point 5 as in 1/2 not #5.
